MTU Marksmen Score Again In Monthly Matches

The Corps' top individual and team pistol marksmen captured a majority of first-place awards in the monthly Los Angeles Police Pistol Matches held Sunday in Los Angeles.

MTU Blue Team members W. W. McMillan, F. W. Filkins, J. A. Fowler, and R. O. Jones swept .22, .38, and 45 matches with respective scores of 1159, 1145, and 1149.

Match grand aggregate winner was McMillan who posted a score of 2627. G. J. Rauch just missed the "2600 Club" by firing a 2599, but the up-and-down coming Marine shooter should be qualifying for club membership before many more matches become MTU history.

In individual .22 match shooting, McMillan fired 294 to best the field of competitors over the National Match Course.

The crack Marksman then led .38 competition with an aggregate of 882. McMillan was followed by Filkins who placed with an 873.

One "Possible"

McMillan and Filkins were both second in National Match Course and slow fire shooting with scores of 293 and 192, respectively, Filkins fired for second-place time fire honors with 195 and McMillan copped the timed fire match with a "possible" of 200.

G. P. DeFino a member of the Navy's marksmanship squad at Camp Matthews, won .45 aggregate honors with 869 while McMillan followed in second place with an 866.

Next Match

DeFino and McMillan were first and second over the National Match Course with 294 and 291. Filkins and Rauch captured slow fire and rapid fire first-place positions with respective scores of 191 and 198.

Good weather favored the 150 Marine, Police, Border Patrol, civilian, and other Armed Services shooters during the match, competitors said.

This weekend Camp Matthews will host the West Coast Rifle Club Match. The event is scheduled for 7:30 Sunday morning on "A" Range.

Service and NRA rifles will be fired in competition which will include firing the National Match Course, with an additional 1000-yard match.
