Matthews Pistol Shooters Take Los Angeles Team Match Honors

Marine shooters captured all first place team match awards and a majority of the individual honors at the Los Angeles Police Pistol Tournament Sunday in Los Angeles.

The Corps' Blue Team, composed of MSgts. R. O. Jones, F. W. Filkins, J. A. Fowler, and 1stLt. W. W. McMillan, won the .22, .38, and .45 caliber matches with scores of 1162, 1158, and 1139, respectively.

Depot Team Second

The Depot's Expert Class team placed second in the .45 pistol shoot with a score of 1096. Team members were Capt. E. D. Anderson, MSgt. O. C. McBride, and TSgts. F. C. Stanonik, and C. D. Kent.

Individual shooters were led by Lt. McMillan who won the match with a 2639.

SSgt. Marlin Findsen, MTU, was third in match totals with a 2609. Sgt. Findsen, who went over the "2600" mark for the first time, was the second enlisted man and the sixth Marine to shoot into the record field.

MSgt. F. W. Filkins was fourth with a 2600.

McMillan Leads

Lt. McMillan led .22 pistol competitors in the timed fire match with a "possible" of 200, then emerged from the rapid fire shoot with a 199. He fired a 298 over the National Match course and then wound up the .22 firing with an aggregate of 889x900.

In .38 pistol, rapid fire competition, the lieutenant fired a 196 and captured aggregate honors with 993.

Sgt. Jones fired 198 to lead .45 rapid fire shooters, while MSgt. J. A. Davis led competitors with the same pistol over the National Match Course with a score of 291. Sgt. Findsen topped the .45 aggregate with an 873.

120 Compete

Approximately 120 Marine Corps, civilian, Border Patrol, Police and other Armed Services shooters participated in the Los Angeles Police Tourney.

Marine shooters reported the weather was cold, but firing conditions were good.
