A new national record was set at Kinston, N.C., recently when the Army Pistol Team, headquarters at Fort Benning, fired a score of 1182-60X over the .22 Caliber National Team Match course during the Mid-Central Regional Pistol Championships hosted by the Kinston Police Department.
The new mark smashed the old record held by the Los Angeles Police Team by a single point to bring all three outdoor pistol team records to the Army Advanced Marksmanship Unit.
The post unit is now officially credited with the .45 Caliber Team Match record of 1773-48X, the Center Fire Team Match record of 1174-52X and the .22 Caliber Team Match record.
The Army's Blue Team which shot the new mark was sparked by the U.S. Individual pistol champion Sfc William B. Blankenship, with Sgt Floyd D Thompson, Sfc Floyd D. Oliver, MSgt Richard M. Stineman and MSgt Mack R. Salmon, coach.
