Trophy Pistol Matches Set
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Ninety-six marksmen, including at least one member of the 1972 U.S. Olympics pistol team, will take to the firing line this week in the Tennessee Trophy Pistol Matches.
Among the entrants is Lt. Col. William McMillan of Turtle Creek, Pa., who will go to Munich next month as a member of the Olympics squad.
Also entered in the three days of shooting that began today are Marine WO Francis Higginson of Placerville, Calif., the 1970 national men's champion, and S. Sgt. John Smith of Siroh, Ind., who won a national individual championship last year at Camp Perry, Ohio.
Two women — S. Sgt. Barbara Hile, a WAC from Lapeer Mich., and three-time national women's champion, and Sgt. 1.C. Bonnie Harmon, who won an individual championship in last week's interservice pistol matches at Lackland AFB, Tex. — will shoot for the Army.

Higginson On Target
Former national pistol champion Marine WO Francis Higginson of Placerville, Calif., came from behind yesterday to take the lead in the Tennessee Trophy Pistol Championship at the National Guard Range at Berry Field.
Higginson, who won the U.S. title in 1970 and was amember of the U.S. Pan American team in 1971, pisted of 1,772 points out of a possible 1,800. He holds a narrow one-point lead over Army SFC Harland Rennolds, Columbus, Ga.
The race for individual honors ends today with firing of .45 caliber matches and service pistol events. Four team contests tomorrow will wind up the three-day tournament, which has drawn 96 of the country's best service handgun target shooters.
AT THE END of yesterday's .22-caliber matches, Higginson trailed the sub-aggregate winner, Army SFC Bonnie D. Harmon, Columbus, Ga., by five points as latter fired a dandy 892 out of 900.
Army National Guardsman Sp6 Milo Vlasin, Lincoln, Neb., is third with an 889.
Higginson gained the overall lead by winning the Center Fire sub-aggregate with a four-match score of 885 points out of 900, one better than Rennolds, who was runnerup.
ARMY M/SGT. Emil Heugatter, Rosebud, Tex., is third overall with 1,768 pints followed by Vlasin with 1,767 and Harmon with 1,762 points.

Pistol Shoot Top Honors To Higginson
Marine WO Francis Higginson, Placerville, Calif., yesterday withstood a late charge by Army SFC Bonnie Harmon of Columbus, Ga., to capture the Tennessee Trophy Pistol Matches with a three-gun total of 2652-120X.
HARMON WON the 45 caliber aggregate match with 888 points but he was still two points shy of Higginson for three guns.
Higginson, a former national pistol champion, had finished shooting Tuesday with a score of 1772 points and a one point lead over Army SFC Harland Rennolds, Columbus, Ga. The Marine fired 880 out of 900 points possible in the 45 match Wednesday to clinch the individual title.
Tennessee Adjutant General MG William C. Smith, presented Higginson with a framed letter citing him for his victory.
RENNOLDS TOOK third place with 2649 followed by National Guard SP6 Milo Vlasin, Lincoln, Neb. and Army MSG Emil Heugatter of Rosebud, Tex., both with scores of 2646.
The three-day tournament, which is the final tune-up for the nation's top shooters before the National Championships, will end today with four team contests.

U.S. Army Blue Team Champ In Pistol Meet
The U.S. Army "Blue" Team captured the Governor's Trophy, an aggregate of four team events, in a close finish of the Tennessee Trophy Pistol Matches completed here yesterday.
THE ARMY handgunners and All-National Guard "Blue" Team both posted combined scores of 4,646 points for the 22 caliber, center fire, 45 caliber, and the service pistol team events. The soldiers won the title with 235X's (the tiny circle in the middle of the target used to break ties) to 194X's for the Guardsmen.
