Marine Corps Pistol Team Trains Here
The Marine Corps Pistol Team reported aboard MCS from duty stations throughout the Corps last Monday, June 10, to begin practice for the National Rifle and Pistol Matches that will be held August 2-10 this year at Camp Perry, Ohio.
The team's strength, now at 41 members, will be cut to 30 during the coming weeks.
The team will participate in a number of pistol matches on the East Coast, in addition to daily practice sessions at the MCS Rifle and Pistol Club pistol range.
Members of the team will take part in the Maryland State Pistol Tournament at Sparrows Point, Md., June 21-23; the Middle Atlantic Regional Pistol Tournament here on June 28-30; and the Eastern Central Pistol Regional Tournament at North Attleboro, Mass., July 12-14.
Capt. Paul J. Shank, who participated in the recent Pan American Games on the American Pistol team, will captain the team and CWO William E. Eubank will be the coach.
In addition to Shank and Eubank, top guns on the roster include Capt. W. W. McMillan, Capt. J. A. Getchell and Sgt. Arnold Vitabro.

McMillan Sweeps Pistol Tournament
Capt. William W. McMillan swept the aggregate championships in all classes to walk off with the individual pistol crown of the Spring Annual Pistol Tournament at MCS June 8-9 with a grand Aggregate score of 2646-126X's.
McMillan, who was a member of the American Pistol Team in the Pan-Am Games last month, started the Rifle and Pistol Club sponsored meet by placing second in the .45 caliber slow fire with a total of 190-5X to WO W.E. Eubank's 192-6X total. He improved with the next match, firing 200-11X to take honors in the .45 cal. Timed Fire and remained steady to fire 199-14X in the .45 Cal. Rapid Fire again taking honors. He dropped to second in the National Match Course with the .45, shooting 292-14X but his 881-44X total was four points ahead of the next competitor as he walked away with the first major victory.
The Captain did not place in the Center Fire Slow Fire, won by F.L. Hargrove with 191-5X, or the Center Fire Time Fire, won by WO Eubank with a 200-13X total. He came roaring back to fire a 199-14X in the Rapid Fire event then went on to record a 294-11X total and another victory in the Center Fire National Match Course. These totals, coupled with the Slow Fire and Time Fire scores boosted him to his second aggregate victory with a total of 879-46X.
McMillan started on the third leg of his triple win by placing third in the .22 cal. slow fire with a 193-4X total. L.L. Hausman won the event with a 197-6X total and T.J. Mulcahy placed second with 194-8X. The Captain again placed third in the Timed Fire event with 200 points and nine shots in the tie-breaking center ring. SgtMaj. Robert O. Jones won the event with 200 points and 11 shots in the "X" ring and Sgt. Larry Hausman fired the same score with 10 shots in the ring for second place.
Although he fired a 197-8X in the Rapid Fire event, McMillan did not place as W.O. Warren fired a 199-12X for honors. McMillan jumped back to previous form in the .22 National Match course as he blazed out a 296-15 for top honors, giving him the third aggregate crown of the meet with 886-36X score.
The winning grand aggregate total of 2646, placed McMillan 20 points ahead of M.W. Findsen, second place winner with 2626-118X.
In team Competition the "Red" Marine Pistol Team won the .22 cal. match, firing 1173-11X of 1200 points; copped honors in the Center Fire event with 1164-48X's and made it clean sweep by blazing to a 1169-52X score in the .45 cal. match.
